On the morning of the 3rd Oberleutnant Vogl and his crew are directed to the area around Pozzalo to conduct air/sea search operations for a 1 staffel Kampfgeschwader 54 crew (Lt. Berge+crew) shot down by nighterfighters the previous evening. Following a final transmission with air traffic control noting large amounts of English fighters (Spitfires) in the area, Vogl and his crew are not heard from again.
4 Spitfire Vc of 249 Squadron claimed a Ju-88 at 1030 12 m S of Pozzallo on the 3rd of March. The pilots were P/O Bruce John Oliver (RNZAF), P/O Irving Farmer Kennedy (RCAF), F/Sgt D E Cruse, and Sgt William James Beveridge Stark, in EP835 T-F, EP343 T-V, xx986 T-M and EP706 T-W, respectively.
Lost are:
Ju88A-4, B3+BB (Werknummer 142275).
